In an interview with the actor John Hurt, he made the following comment about spontaneity in Radio Acting, that we should always '...let the words surprise you slightly'. As voiceover artists, voice actors and radio actors we are always reading. Letting the words surprise means that we have to think of the words first or st the time of speaking, so even though we have, of course, prepared and rehearsed, the words and phrasing appears spontaneous. If we sound like we know what we are going to say next then we are no longer "in the moment". I have practised and taught this technique for decades but it's always good to know that the stars do the same thing.
